Pegging Spidersex glossario

Pegging is the practice in which a person anally penetrates a man using a strap-on. The term entered common usage in the 2000s and helped normalize a practice that had existed long before but had no mainstream name.

Origins of the term and its spread

The term “pegging” was coined and adopted by the online community in the early 2000s, thanks in part to Dan Savage’s column. Having a precise name changed the visibility of the practice: it’s easier to search for something when you know what it’s called. Since then, searches for the term have grown steadily and continue to grow.

In search data, pegging has a predominantly heterosexual audience: it is mostly male-female couples who search for it. This has helped reduce the notion that male anal penetration is exclusively a gay practice.

Practice and preparation

As with any anal penetration, preparation is important. The man receiving must be comfortable with anal stimulation, starting with smaller sizes and progressing calmly. The strap-on should be chosen based on the receiver’s experience, not ambition: starting with something small and gradually increasing is almost always the approach that leads to the best results.

The harness used by the penetrating partner must be comfortable and stable. There are many types: single belt, double belt, boxer style. Stability during movement is the main practical priority.

Femdom and psychology

Pegging is often integrated into femdom dynamics, but not necessarily. Some couples practice it in an egalitarian context, without power hierarchies. Others use it explicitly as role reversal with a domination component. In both cases, prior communication is what distinguishes a positive experience from an uncomfortable one.
