“Chubby” doesn’t have a neutral translation in Italian. The one that would come naturally carries too much negative weight. We use the English word because in erotic and cam contexts it has become a precise category, with a stable fanbase and a very recognizable type of interaction.
Chubby and BBW: not the same thing
BBW (Big Beautiful Woman) and chubby overlap, but they’re not synonyms, and on platforms they are searched for differently.
BBW refers to fuller-figured bodies, often with pronounced physical characteristics. The term is often used as a positive identity, with a strong element of body positivity and self-definition.
Chubby is closer to the Italian “paffuto” or “in carne”: a soft body, above-average weight but not necessarily far above. The distinction isn’t rigid, but a user searching for chubby isn’t necessarily looking for BBW, and vice versa. They are similar but not identical body types, and tastes are more precise than people think.
Why people like it
The reasons some people are attracted to softer bodies are the same reasons someone is attracted to athletic or slender bodies: a matter of physical type, personal aesthetic sense, and what one finds pleasurable.
There is, however, a component that often emerges in those describing their attraction: physical softness is associated with something comforting, less performative. It’s not a generalization that works for everyone, but it’s a recurring theme in communities built around this preference.
Chubby on cam
On webcam platforms, chubby is a category with a solid fanbase. Performers who fit this description often work with regular clients, which suggests the relationship isn’t based only on physical type but on a form of connection that goes beyond it.
As with all body-related categories, the rule holds that the performer is a person, not the representation of a category. The best interactions arise when physical type is the starting point, not the only topic of conversation.
